Chalk remains a classroom and chalkboard staple, used daily across South African primary schools alongside more specialised liquid chalk markers for displays and signage. Welkom Business Machines stocks dustless and standard chalk from Hi, Drawell, FILA Giotto and Robercolor in white, coloured and jumbo formats.

Standard chalk works on traditional slate and painted chalkboards, with dustless options producing noticeably less airborne dust — worth considering for classrooms where chalk is used heavily throughout the day. Jumbo chalk is thicker and more comfortable for smaller hands, a common choice for foundation phase classrooms.
